History comes alive at the Bucyrus Club & Event Center, and it took a special vision from a best-in-class architectural team to make that a reality.
That is why we were so excited to see Historic Milwaukee Inc. honor Zimmerman Architectural Studios for their work on our historic venue at the Remarkable MKE Gala on March 23 – at the same building Zimmerman helped revitalize.
“Zimmerman is honored to have received recognition for our work,” the firm shared on Facebook, calling the Bucyrus Club “a true beacon of pride for the South Milwaukee community.”
“This stunning adaptive reuse endeavor required the dedication and collaboration of many talented individuals. We’re especially proud of senior interior designer, Elizabeth Yagel, for leading the interior design efforts, skillfully balancing historic character with fresh, modern elements to bring new life to the space.
“Our continued support for Historic Milwaukee extends beyond sponsorships. With our Live Work Play director, Brian Hatzung, on board with Historic Milwaukee, we’re deeply committed to creating lasting impact through community and design. Thank you to Historic Milwaukee, Inc. for hosting such an inspiring event at the Bucyrus Club and highlighting the power of design and preservation.”
The award is a story 130 years in the making, as our venue transformed from furniture factory to assembly shop to employee club to community center to restaurant to nearly being vacant before being purchased by the City of South Milwaukee in 2020. A year later, following a $5 million renovation, it reopened as the Bucyrus Club and Museum. The honor recognizes the work it took to get there.
Said Skyline Catering founder and co-owner Ernie Wunsch: “We are proud to be the next generation of stewards for this wonderful building, and we take that responsibility seriously. None of it would be possible without the hard work, passion, dedication, and attention to detail of those who made it happen: partners like Zimmerman, CG Schmidt, the Bucyrus Foundation and the City of South Milwaukee — and the wonderful volunteers at the South Milwaukee Industrial Museum.”
More than 100 guests attended the Historic Milwaukee gala, which honored “individuals, businesses and organizations that have a strong history in Milwaukee and have made exemplary contributions to the city’s heritage and the built environment.”
We served a three-course meal featuring German pork schnitzel, bourbon chicken and tortellini alfredo.
